"The Oakdale Mall Slopes A Problem In Mass Wasting" Project Files and Images
Below as taken from Google Earth on 12/23/14 Image date shot 10/5/11 is a more recent image of the Oakdale Mall with an overview on the left with a close up image of the slopes on the right. as you can see the parking lot still looks a bit absent of traffic still devoid of lines where the base of the slope on the Reynolds Road side still looking problematic in terms of a slump issue that appears ongoing. Note the Finch Hollow Reservoir north of the Mall above Overbrook Road. You can expand the images by clicking on them.
Please download the below two PDF Files before you venture off into and across the slides and other presentation material before you begin. Also-when the drainage system is being discussed pull up Overhead III where the drainage system is outlined from the overall terrain, note the position of the Finch Hollow Dam. This is an earthen Dam controlling the water flow about a half a mile up slope which forms a good size creek coming in from the north and to the left of the mall. Pray the Dam never breaks as the Oakdale Mall shall be inundated with water, but then they know this.
From left to right below are the original slides used in the December 1991 presentation to the Geomorphology class with Professor Peter Knuepfer. The slides numbered 1 through 18 are those photos provided by Arthur Phillips then Manager of the Oakdale Mall Johnson City New York generally dated 1986 through 1987. The slides below and to the right numbered 19 through 29 were taken on 12/1/1991 with Paul Ackerman as the photographer. I wish to note that Paul did a follow up study of his own only a couple of years ago, so the activities of the slopes there at the Oakdale Mall are still ongoing. You can expand the images by clicking on them.
The Most Likely Reason as to How and Why the Slopes on the Reynolds Road side will Fail as a Rotational Slump as already indicated by the project in 1991. To Expand Image Click on the Image to a New Browser
The Big Problem with The Oakdale Mall Mass Wasting Issue
This website constitutes a point where new paradigms and modes of thought are and can be introduced and discussed openly about how to enhance and design effective new alternative models and or approaches to deal with the human condition. Thus being so, this website is and shall continue to be a building process with more components added across time and that the pre development inception phase of the field of Planetary Development shall come into greater focus in the years ahead.
